The grassland at the beginning before the staircase where the tutorial takes place is actually a really special part of the Mushroom Kingdom, it's the only place not controlled by Bowser that remained completely untouched by Shroob invaders. As silly as it sounds, that makes it my favorite location in Partners In Time, as otherwise unremarkable as it is.

One of my favorite moments of the game. All these years later this scene still makes me laugh.

What is it with Metroid games and lobotomizing fonal bosses? Dark Samus became intrinsically linked to the consciousness of a living planet which probably made her have access to the mental faculties closest to what any mortal in the Metroid universe could come close to in terms of godhood mentally along with a resilient energy to enact the will of said higher functioning...all this fight is doing is lobotomizing a sub brain that was attached to the main planets core braon to further elevate it's functioning to propovate phason as well as sustaining dark samus as a near deity. Samus essentially comes in with neurosurgical tools to first destroy the mechanical spinal column of the grafted sub brain crippling the connection but not severing it due to some sort of wireless communication that probably greatly hampered processing, taxing the planets core brain further than any prior sustained damage along with energy expenditure to sustain flight. Then Samus shoots the back of the brain enough to heavily damage it enough that all functioning is heavily disrupted with dark samus agonizingly trying to keep what neurological processes were occuring going with her conscious mind but being unable to as what has happened to all real life chemically or otherwise lobotomized people in real life who end up losing some functioning or abilities.
